SHIRUMICHI is an independent project exploring personal connections to Japan through names, local encounters, and the symbols woven into everyday life.
The name combines the Japanese words shiru (知る), meaning “to know,” and michi (道), meaning “path” or “way.”
Your Name in KANJI
Our free generator offers a starting point for exploring your name in Japanese characters, with meanings for individual characters. Automatic results are not a personally reviewed naming service.
For a personal selection, our custom service considers your pronunciation, wishes, and intended use. It includes one KANJI name proposal for one given name, presented in seven font styles, an English explanation PDF, and one minor revision. The price is JPY 3,000. Delivery is within five business days after payment and all necessary information are received. The styles use fonts; they are not handwritten calligraphy.
Local Doors
We are developing stories about small shops, bars, workshops, and the people behind them. Our approach starts with the host’s agreement and respect for each place’s customs. The aim is a welcome built on understanding and trust.
Local stories are in preparation. Accompanied visits are a future idea and are not currently available to book.
Symbols & Beliefs
We are developing stories about protective charms, auspicious symbols, and everyday beliefs: what they mean to people, how they are used, and the wishes they express. We approach these subjects as culture and personal belief, without promising changes in luck or health.
